Polarization - A Must when Wiring Lamps and Lighting Fixtures

  When Wiring Lamps and Lighting Fixtures we need to keep the Hot wire and the Neutral Wires Apart from Each Other, On the Correct Color Wire AND On the Correct Terminals of the Sockets and Plugs

Wire:

  • The Hot Wire and the Neutral Wire are Never Connected Together.
  • A Switch is Never Connected Across the Hot and Neutral Wire.
  • SPT Type Wire has a Raised Rib Stripe on the Neutral Wire.
  • AWM, SVT, SJT, TFFN, AND PTFE:
  • Black = Hot
  • White = Neutral
  • Green = Ground                    
 
Sockets:
  • Brass Screw = Hot
  • Silver Screw = Neutral
  • Green Screw = Ground
  • Black Screw (Special Two Circuit Night-Light  Sockets) Switched Hot
Plugs:
  • Brass Screw = Hot
  • Silver Screw = Neutral (Wide Prong)
  • Green Screw = Ground
