How a Three Way Light Bulb Works

Joseph T. -

A three-way bulb is a type of light bulb that allows for three levels of light output. It has two separate filaments inside the bulb, each of which can produce a different level of light. By controlling which filament is active, the light output can be changed.

This is done using a three-way socket and switch, which connects the bulb's different filaments to the electrical circuit differently. When the switch is changed, the bulb's filaments are connected in various configurations, causing the light output to change.

Three-way bulbs are commonly used in table and floor lamps, where it is desirable to have multiple levels of light output for different lighting scenarios.
